I became a Phil Collins fan in 1983 because of this song which I consider his best song so far.

You should watch all of the songs from this band live and especially "Hate" where the drummer "kills" it. Nothing like 'em. The drummer (Lee Harris) is marvelous and the bassist (Paul Webb) is a blast to watch. Mark was a genius with a distinctive voice. RIP.

Well, in 13/8 time, it really can't be considered a straight-forward pop kind of single. Phil had divorced about two years prior to this. But he's never gone long without a girlfriend. Three Sides Live refers to the US version of the double record album. Three sides were live tracks and the fourth side were studio B-sides and other completed songs that didn't make it on to the albums.

The Montreal Canadians on top of it, Ryan? ;-) I met Queensryche at the time of The Warning album (high school). This concept album was literally a bomb when I got a copy... and learning it was recorded in the Laurentides (Le Studio, Morin Heights). Wow!

Jeez, The drumming in the ending section = 8.35 is just fantastic, it's what inspired me to pick up the sticks, its just sublime.

You mentioned Phil Collins not working on this song, but in 1982, I was at the Universal Amphitheater. When Gabriel started performing Kiss of Life, Collins came out from backstage, gave Peter a hug and sort of danced around the stage while the song closed the show. My piano teacher said the song had an unusual time signature: 6/8 whatever that means.

If you ever feel like doing a follow-up to this video, watch 2 songs after this at the same show: Emperor - Majesty of the Night Sky @ Wacken 2006. You mentioned here that you couldn't really hear the keyboard player. It was definitely a little more subtle in Strength. One of its strongest parts was the "choral" synths during the crazy fast part in the middle. But in Majesty of the Night Sky, it is up front and a key part of the song. And whereas Strength featured more clean vocals backed by the keyboard player's vocals, Majesty is wide open on the screaming growling vocals enhanced by the bass player's signature howling growl vocals. Fantastic stuff.

No playbacks, no auto tune, just verve, nailing every note, higher and higher, she is awesome. I love her ❤ PS: take a look at her performance " Boy Blue" in Japan, a-ma-zing.

This sounds like a different mix from what I am used to. The vocal are way out front as are certain other instruments. I prefer the original mix.

Saw that performed live in ‘84,when Pete did the backwards dive i to the crowd and surfedas the the crowd laid their hands on him. One of the best concerts i ever saw!

When I got a hold of the cassette of Genesis, in 1974, was just 15 years old, knew I have to be in a mystical place to listen in a deep mode, the Parque National Cajas is a region full of lakes of the Andes, near the City Cuenca where I landed in this life....After walking for hours at the Luspa lake around 3.500 Mts high, put on a fire the clouds surrounding the tent, press play in the walkman and fly beyond the starts with Cinema show. Did not understand so well English at that time so I connect the lyrics with transcendence somehow, awakening was my thing, reading Bhagavad Gita and these music brought me closer to Krishna. Thank you Genesis.
